General Motors’ subsidiary GM Defense revealed its latest project at the Association of the United States Army’s annual meeting and expo. The GM Defense Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) Concept is an unusual-looking pickup designed to support silent logistics and casualty evacuation in the field.

The concept truck is based on the Chevrolet Silverado (shown below). It uses the same dual-rear-wheel skateboard architecture as the pickup and utilizes the new EPIQ Hybrid prototype. The powertrain features a 60kWh or 100kWh “expeditionary energy storage system” paired with an onboard generator for lower thermal and noise signatures.

Based on the powertrain description, the truck basically works like a series hybrid with larger battery capacity. Other specs haven’t been published, but based on the Silverado and the UGV’s use-case scenario, the concept truck will probably run on full-time 4WD. The vehicle’s functional trials are expected to begin in 2027.

GM Defense also showcased its Infantry Squad Vehicle Utility (ISV-U) based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. It uses a GM Duramax 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine and is expected to deploy across 39 active-duty and National Guard mobile brigades. The company says the US Army initially ordered 649 vehicles, but that number has since grown to nearly 12,000 units.

“The modern defense landscape demands advanced capability, rapid fielding and sustainable scale,” says GM Defense president Steve duMont. “We do not begin with a blank sheet of paper. By transferring GM’s world-class engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing scale directly to the service member, we are transforming customer needs into mission-ready capability faster than ever before.”
