The plug-in pickup market is an increasingly competitive segment, and Chery is ready to make its move. Enter the Chery Stockman, the Chinese automaker’s take at electrifying trucks for work and play. It stands out by filling up with diesel instead of gas—pretty rare as far as PHEVs go.
Under the hood is a 2.5-liter turbodiesel mill mated to an electric motor and a 34kWh LFP battery. Combined system power is a hearty 469hp and 800Nm of torque sent to all four wheels, good for up to 3,495kg of braked towing capacity.
Chery also quotes 96km of electric-only range, and up to 90.9km/L with both electric and diesel components powering the vehicle.

The Chery Stockman measures 5,450mm long, 2,010mm wide, and 1,930mm tall, with 247mm of ground clearance. In other words, it’s around the same size as the BYD Shark 6, but slightly wider. Under the metal, it’s built on a proper ladder-frame chassis riding on a double-wishbone suspension up front and leaf springs at the rear. Individually selectable front, center, and rear differential locks are also present.

The cabin gets leather upholstery throughout, with heating and ventilation available for the front row. Screen space is plenty with a 10.25-inch instrument display (complemented by a HUD) and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen. A full suite of ADAS features is also present, as is typical of Chinese cars.

The Chery Stockman comes standard with 17-inch alloys wrapped in all-terrain tires. Overall, it shares the muscular bodywork of other modern pickups. The Chery wordmark is spelled out on the fascia, flanked by circular lighting units and diagonal grille vents—details that wouldn’t look out of place on an iCaur SUV.
Preorders are currently available in Australia, with deliveries expected to begin next year. What say you, though? Would a diesel-sipping PHEV work well in the Philippine market? Let us know in the comments.
