The Subaru Trailseeker has just received a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). The electric midsize crossover was given an average score of 84% across the four assessment categories.
The Trailseeker is one of Subaru’s fully electric crossover SUVs. While it shares the same platform as the Toyota bZ Woodland, it’s also closely related to the Toyota bZ4X (shown below) and the Subaru E-Outback. ANCAP shared that it was provided with technical information showing that the test results of the bZ4X and e-Outback also apply to the Trailseeker. This is why there aren’t any ANCAP photos of the Trailseeker in a crash test as of writing.

ANCAP’s safety test comprises Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection, and Safety Assist. Based on the assessment, the Trailseeker scored highest in Adult Occupant Protection, scoring 35.60 out of 40.

The crossover comes with airbags for dual-frontal, chest, and head protection, as well as driver-knee protection as standard. There’s also a center airbag, which provides added protection in the event of a side impact.

Other safety features in this crossover include autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, emergency lane keeping, and a speed-assist system. The Trailseeker scored 42.43 out of 49 for Child Occupant Protection, 50.47 out of 63 for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 14.86 out of 18 for Safety Assist, adding up to a total score of 143.36 out of 170 for all four categories.
The Trailseeker was designed as an off-road-capable crossover for the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand markets.
