You’ve probably heard about prime minister Sanae Takaichi’s A70 Toyota Supra, but the Japanese head of state recently welcomed a new car to her garage: a Toyota Century SUV. Typically, the country’s PM is shuttled in a Century sedan, but it looks like Takaichi needed a bigger ride.
First reported by Japanese newspaper The Sankei Shimbun, the new Century SUV was initially seen at the National Diet of Japan as Takaichi attended a meeting with the nation’s House of Representatives. The story further describes the new car as a “mobile office,” appropriate for the prime minister’s busy schedule.

From what we’ve seen, it doesn’t look like too many modifications were made. The exterior doesn’t feature any prominent changes, aside from an all-black paint job and flashing lights installed behind the grille. While we obviously cannot see what the cabin looks like, it has likely been customized to the prime minister’s needs and preferences.

If the powertrain has been unchanged, then on deck is still a plug-in hybrid system, built around a 3.5-liter V6 engine. When this SUV was launched in 2023, it debuted with a starting price of ¥25 million (around P9.51 million), but prices have probably shifted since then.
After all, the Century brand has also taken on a new duty as the top luxury brand in the Toyota family. With that, production is expected to pick up over the next few years as Century develops into a full-fledged brand. With her fondness for coupes, perhaps Takaichi will soon replace her new SUV with the Century Coupe concept—whenever that’ll hit the assembly line.
