MG’s accessible electric hatchback has been making some noise Down Under. The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) recently awarded the new MG 4 Urban a five-star safety rating after subjecting it to several crash tests and evaluations.
This particular EV has been rumored to be bound for the Philippines after the Department of Energy officially recognized it. And with the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) coming up, MG Philippines could be rolling out the red carpet for a new electric offering.

If it will indeed launch locally, the Urban variant may be positioned as an entry-level EV. The new 4 will join its more premium configurations, which have already been available for a couple of years. There is also a good chance it will replace the 4 Standard as the official base trim.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s go back to the ANCAP scores. The 4 Urban achieved an 87% in Adult Occupant Protection, with high protection ratings in the full-width frontal and side-impact tests. It then got an 86% in Child Occupant Protection, with similar scores in the frontal offset and side impact evaluations.

In Vulnerable Road User Protection, which generally rates impact on pedestrians and cyclists, the 4 Urban was given an 85%. Finally, an 82% score was achieved based on Safety Assists. While this is a base model, MG did equip the hatchback with some driving aids and assistance systems. These include adaptive cruise control, lane assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and seatbelt reminders.
