Construction of the Metro Manila Subway is well underway with the groundbreaking of the rail line’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 Station. This will serve as the southern terminus of the line, which will start in Valenzuela City at its opposite end.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the groundbreaking ceremony at NAIA T3, which also kicks off the larger Contract Package 109 segment. This includes a 2.413km stretch that will run through the cities of Taguig and Pasay. The NAIA T3 Station will then be constructed underneath the airport’s open parking lot.
In total, this station is expected to have a floor area of 19,179.50sqm. The journey between Valenzuela City and NAIA T3 is expected to take around 40 minutes, which should be a major improvement from the average 90-minute commute.

With the NAIA T3 Station on the way, the entire subway line is expected to open in the third quarter of 2031. A video package during the ceremony also revealed that overall construction is 60% complete, with 4km of tunnels done.
Once the line is fully operational, 30 eight-car trainsets will be traveling as fast as 80kph throughout the whole subway system. From Valenzuela to NAIA T3, the underground tunnels will extend 33.103km throughout Metro Manila.
While it wasn’t mentioned, travelers and airport employees heading to other terminals could still make use of the subway station, as it could provide easier access to the inter-terminal shuttle service. At the same time, the subway will also provide connections to Metro Rail Transit Lines 3 and 7, as well as to Light Rail Transit Line 2.
