If you grew up a car guy in the Philippines, chances are you heard your uncles and fathers talk about “Chedeng,” the localized moniker for Mercedes-Benz. To them, the brand represented the very best that motoring could offer in terms of luxury, class, status, and in some cases performance. With most of my older automotive influences (my dad and uncles) growing up in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, it’s easy for me to see why they look at Benz with rose-tinted glasses.
