However, it appears some LTO-accredited car and motorcycle dealerships were found to be in violation of this, and they have now been penalized by the agency. The accreditation is what supposedly allows these dealers to process the registration of brand-new cars and motorcycles.
According to the LTO, 37 dealers were fined, another 39 were fined P500,000 and had their accreditation suspended for six months, and 12 more had their accreditations canceled. The dealers who lost their accreditation will also be blacklisted for a year by the LTO.
“Hindi nagtatapos sa pag-iisyu ng SCO ang aksyon ng LTO sa pagpapanagot sa mga accredited dealer na hindi tumutupad sa kanilang mga obligasyon,” said LTO chief Markus Lacanilao. “Hindi namin hahayaan na ang kanilang kapabayaan ay patuloy na magdulot ng abala at paghihirap sa ating mga motorista. Ang mga dealer na patuloy na hindi susunod sa mga patakaran ng LTO ay haharap sa mas mabibigat na parusa, kabilang ang pagpapatigil ng kanilang operasyon.”
