In May 2026, Honda announced that its next-generation hybrid platform would be launched in 2027. However, the brand did not share which models would be the first to utilize the new architecture. While two prototypes were presented at the event, they weren’t really associated with any existing nameplate in the carmaker’s stable.
And that brings us to the present and a recent report from Nikkei Asia. According to the Japanese outlet, Honda is planning to accelerate its hybrid vehicle product rollout to remain competitive in global markets amid its shifting product strategy.
The report names three hybrid Honda models that will likely kick off this fast-tracked initiative. For the United States and other North American markets, a new CR-V could drop in 2027, while Japan is scheduled to see a new Vezel (HR-V) by 2028. Closer to home, the China-exclusive Avancier SUV is also rumored to launch in Thailand in early 2027.

Interestingly, the report also shares that production of the Avancier is expected to expand to Thailand as well.
Now, that does not automatically mean that it will arrive in the Philippines. If the model performs well in a Southeast Asian market, however, then it could be something that local buyers would be interested in. We’re currently seeing a similar litmus test with Nissan and its Navara Pro and Primera EV, both originally from China. While they haven’t been in our market yet, we will soon see the reception from Philippine buyers.
Ultimately, we can’t help thinking the Avancier and even a new HR-V would make for promising Philippine releases. After all, they should be more affordable than Honda’s current hybrids, as the new platform is designed to be more cost-effective. At the same time, the vehicles based on the new platform should also be more fuel-efficient. As far as hybrids go, 2027 is shaping up to be an interesting year already.
