The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced that the LRT-2 and MRT-3 train lines will implement a general 50% fare discount starting March 23, 2026. It will be made available to all passengers through the blue-colored Beep card and single-journey tickets. At the same time, senior citizens, students, and PWDs will still be entitled to their respective 50% discounts.

Light Rail Manila has yet to extend the price adjustments to the LRT-1 system, but the DOTr is currently coordinating with the private operator. This comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed the department to provide other mobility solutions for citizens after postponing the planned fare increases for public utility vehicles.

However, the DOTr has not yet disclosed when the 50% discounts will expire. It looks like commuters can avail themselves of these more affordable fares as fuel prices continue to soar.

As per the President’s orders, citizens can also expect reduced toll fees and more Libreng Sakay programs soon. The DOTr started its first wave of free bus rides in Metro Manila on March 19, with other government offices providing more vehicles on select routes.

The EDSA Busway should also see waived fares, but that initiative has yet to be finalized. Commuters within Quezon City can still make use of the new Love Bus, which operates from Eastwood City to Robinsons Galleria, and vice versa. Fares are currently free, with several stops between the two malls.
