The Toyota Yaris Cross has gotten a refresh in Europe. For starters, the subcompact crossover dons a new grille, featuring a wider honeycomb pattern. Coupled with thicker headlights, it now wears a more expressive, bug-looking face.
Personally, I prefer the previous (or current) design, but the rear half looks much taller and more macho. The bumper on the back is almost abnormally large, and along with the wide fender flares, it makes an imposing impression.

This release then utilizes a more robust hybrid system, which is unavailable in the Philippines. It pairs the same 1.5-liter engine with a more powerful electric motor, making an increased 130hp and 185Nm of torque. Toyota advertises that its ‘Hybrid 130’ powertrain can return around 19-22km/L in fuel efficiency.

The improved powertrain can also be spec’d with an all-wheel-drive system. While this Yaris Cross only holds a single motor, it is offered with Toyota’s AWD-i technology for improved performance and driving dynamics.

A standard front-drive configuration is also available and can be optioned with the GR Sport variant. Buyers in Europe can also opt for a smaller setup, which makes a more conservative 116hp and 141Nm. However, all of these powertrains still pack a heavier punch than the Philippine-spec hybrid Yaris Cross.
Inside, the cabin gets a larger main screen, and the general layout has been simplified. However, finishes and materials look to be the same, along with the cloth upholstery.
