BYD Cars Philippines announced that it has sold 28,399 units from January to August 2026. This officially marks a 99% year-on-year improvement in local sales—in 2025, the Chinese carmaker sold 26,122 units for the whole year.
This impressive feat was spearheaded by the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i plug-in hybrid, which continues to be the brand’s best-selling model. The Sealion 6 DM-i posted 7,759 units sold over the past eight months, amounting to 27% of BYD’s total Philippine sales. The newer eMax 9 DM-i MPV also proved to be a strong contributor, with 2,512 units sold so far this year.
Moreover, 22,555 of the brand’s overall 2026 sales figure is attributed to its roster of plug-in hybrid DM-i models. That alone represents a 95% year-on-year increase, as 11,542 DM-i vehicles were sold within the same period last year.

On the fully electric side, the eMax 7 has been the brand’s top-selling BEV this year, with 1,975 units sold so far. This makes up the majority of the 5,844 fully electric units sold in 2026. And compared to the same timeframe in 2025, BYD’s BEV sales are up 115% year-on-year.
With four months left to go in 2026, the brand is looking to push the needle even further for electrified mobility. The company’s managing director, Bob Palanca, reaffirmed BYD’s commitment to the Philippine market: “The market’s response to our best-selling models, like the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, the eMax 9 DM-i, and the eMax 7 BEV, and our achievement of crossing our full-year 2025 sales, is proof that electric vehicles have entered the mainstream in the Philippines.
“Filipino consumers are choosing BYD because our vehicles deliver what matters most: innovation, practicality, reliability, and lower ownership costs without compromise.
