Department of Transportation undersecretary Mark Steven Pastor said earlier this week that the agency is preparing to evaluate the feasibility of busway lines on C5, Quezon Avenue, and Ortigas-Aurora. These major thoroughfares were identified by an earlier World Bank-funded study.
Initial details reported by GMA News Online state that the C5 corridor will be 46km long with 88 stops, the Quezon Avenue corridor will be 26.24km long with 62 stops, and the Ortigas-Aurora corridor will be 30.5km long with 65 stops. Pastor says that these three busways will “expand the success of the EDSA Busway into a metropolitan network integrated with rail, terminals, and major activity centers.”

The DOTr is currently finalizing the terms of the foreign grant funding the feasibility study for the new busway lines. Whether these are operated by the government or a private entity will be determined by the upcoming study. It is understood that the three additional corridors will retain the EDSA Busway’s dedicated bus lane, while also adding more accessible infrastructure.

Pastor elaborated: “Kumbaga mas PWD-friendly na dapat siya as compared doon sa EDSA Busway because we had to work out the existing configuration sa EDSA. At least dito sa corridors na nabanggit ko, may mga portions dito na may maluwag na bangketa na maaari nating lagyan ng lift or elevators and so on and so forth.”

The DOTr undersecretary also noted that the House of Representatives’ General Appropriations Bill allocates P75 million for the EDSA Busway’s infrastructure improvements.
The EDSA Busway currently has several improvement projects ongoing. The Monumento, Bagong Barrio, Guadalupe, and North EDSA stations are under rehabilitation and are set to be inaugurated by the end of October. Meanwhile, the PITX, Cubao, and Magallanes stations are under construction and will commence operations in 2027.
