Porsche gave the world quite a shock recently, and it didn’t even need rocket thrusters to do it. Its new Mission S concept is apparently “a forward-looking vision model as a first glimpse of the brand’s evolved design identity,” but we also know that it previews a “permanently available super sports car” that’ll sit above the 911. Hurrah!
Now Porsche just needs to actually build the thing, and given how good this Mission S looks on the streets of New York, we reckon it could go straight into production as is.

Oh, and if you’re wondering why America got to see it first, we’re told the 550 Spyder was first unveiled on a pier in Queens, New York way back in 1953. With the number of throwbacks woven into the design of the Mission S (928 telephone dial wheels, 917 cooling fan, GT1 roof scoop and rear end, 959 wing, etc.), it’s perhaps no surprise that its actual launch referenced another one.
