BYD Cars Philippines and ACMobility have announced a service campaign for units of the BYD Shark 6, focusing on the pickup’s spare tire assembly. A design flaw identified last month could cause the spare tire to detach while driving, posing a safety hazard on the road.
The issue was first reported last month in Australia, leading to a recall of 32,009 units. BYD Australia specifies that “incorrect installation of the spare wheel, incorrect positioning of the spare wheel tray or insufficient fastening torque may cause abnormal wear of the spare wheel support cable” that could result in premature failure and the spare tire falling off.

BYD Cars Philippines and ACMobility’s advisory did not indicate specific VINs or units built within a certain period, instead addressing existing BYD Shark 6 owner as a whole.

For owners who have previously removed and reattached their Shark 6’s spare tire, BYD Cars Philippines and ACMobility recommend keeping the spare tire off the assembly hub for now. Those who have never removed their spare tire do not need to take action at this time.
The updated parts needed to address the spare tire assembly’s design flaw have not yet arrived in the Philippines. BYD Shark 6 owners are advised to wait for a dealer representative to reach out regarding the part’s availability, after which they can proceed to have their unit’s spare tire assembly replaced at a BYD dealership free of charge.
