Robin Raikkonen, the son of Formula 1 champion Kimi Raikkonen, has been selected to join Red Bull Racing’s driver development program. As part of the Red Bull Junior Team, the young Finn will join other young drivers training to maximize their talents in motorsports and hopefully gain a path toward F1.
At only 11 years old, Robin has found success in karting, competing in national and international Rotax and WSK championships. According to Red Bull Racing CEO and team principal Laurent Mekies: “Robin has already demonstrated exceptional ability in karting. His speed, racecraft, and natural talent have established him as one of the most promising young drivers in his age group.”
Mekies adds that the young karting racer has shown a calm approach and a clear focus on driving—attributes that his father was known for. The team principal also emphasizes that the path through motorsport is long, and that the program will give Robin the time, support, and resources he needs. “Our goal is to develop him step by step, without placing any unnecessary pressure on his shoulders,” says Mekies.

What does the ‘Iceman’ have to say about all this? Kimi says he’s excited about his son’s development under Red Bull, adding that the team has been very supportive throughout their discussions. Furthermore, he describes Red Bull’s program as “compelling and comprehensive,” saying it should help further develop Robin’s talent over the coming years.
The Red Bull Junior Team has produced notable alumni, including four-time F1 world champions Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. This season, other alumni include Carlos Sainz, Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Liam Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, Isack Hadjar, and, racing as a substitute driver, Yuki Tsunoda.
