Jaecoo J5 EV spotted in DOE papers with three variants and new design

Earlier this year at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show, the self-charging Jaecoo J5 SHS-H hit the entry level HEV market. Now, based on DOE recognition papers, its fully electric counterpart may be coming up next.

The Jaecoo J5 EV shows up three times on DOE’s list of recognized EVs, once for each trim: Standard, Max, and Premium. Each listing also has a full spec sheet for perusal, so let’s dive right in.

Outer measurements haven’t changed, with the J5 EV having the same body figures as the J5 SHS-H: 4,380mm long, 1,860mm wide, and 1,650mm tall. However, ground clearance at full capacity is at 166mm, an 11mm increase over the hybrid’s 155mm. The 480-liter trunk capacity is also retained in the EV, but a new 35-liter frunk is now available where the hybrid’s engine block would have gone.

Looking at pictures from neighboring markets, the one major visual change in the Jaecoo J5 EV is the redesigned front clip with a flatter profile. This replaces the hybrid’s wide vertical grille and bumper vents, which helps accentuate the chassis’s boxy profile.

The Jaecoo J5 EV’s power setup across all trims is a 58.9kWh LFP battery paired with a single motor making 208hp and 288Nm of torque. Estimated NEDC driving range is at 461km on a single charge. Slightly less power than the SHS-H on paper, but the all-electric J5 has an ever-so-slightly faster 0-100kph of 7.7sec.

These powertrain figures are standard across all trims. The Max variant separates itself from the base Standard model through added creature comforts and a superior tech package. These include leather and soft-touch interior trims, a 540-degree panoramic view camera, and a panoramic glass roof.

The Max variant also includes a full ADAS suite, a feature set notably missing from the Standard model. The Premium trim tops out the Jaecoo J5 EV model range, adding front row seat ventilation and a premium eight-speaker audio system from Sony.

Outside the spec sheets, the Omoda Jaecoo Philippines Facebook page itself has already posted a teaser image, complete with the caption “This time, it’s all electric.” It features a charging station with a crossover’s silhouette behind it illuminated only by the headlights. The design is a clean match with the J5’s design, be it in hybrid or EV form.

Could we see the Jaecoo J5 EV unveiled, or even launched next month at the Philippine International Motor Show? With the electrified market heating up right now from the ongoing fuel crisis, Jaecoo could be bringing this in as an entry level BEV. Would this make your shortlist if you’re in the market for an all-electric crossover?
