Auto China 2026: The Nissan Terrano is back as a plug-in hybrid concept

Nissan has been on an absolute roll as of late. It’s been churning out new models left and right, and it’s already made public its plans for the near future as well. Now, at 2026 Beijing Motor Show, the carmaker has unveiled two new electrified concepts.

First is the Terrano PHEV Concept, which also marks the revival of a storied nameplate. It comes with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, and by the looks of it, it could get all-wheel drive and plenty of off-road-focused tech and features. Frankly, it looks like a proper electrified off-roader. The final production version of the Terrano will be fully launched in a year’s time.

Second is the Urban SUV PHEV Concept, another plug-in hybrid that, as the name suggests, is more geared towards daily driving in the city rather than on trails and tricky terrain. As with the Terrano, not a lot of details are available yet, but we do know that Urban SUV PHEV Concept will also make it into production within a year.

Nissan ahs been quite aggressive with its launches in China. It has also announced that it will be introducing three more new energy vehicles in the People’s Republic by fiscal year 2027. We’re not sure whether or not all these models will eventually make their way to our market, though.

“Under our vision, China is not only a highly competitive domestic market but also a source of innovation, enabling us to create new value and experiences for customers in China and in the global markets,” said Nissan president and CEO Ivan Espinosa. “Advanced technology must serve a clear purpose and be experienced directly by customers through mobility that is safer, more intuitive, and more accessible. China is central to bringing this belief to life.”
